RP Ramblings a Go, Time to Sort Through Music

Hello Friends,

 

Last week I alluded to the fact that there might be a snag for the Rocky Point Ramblings. That snag has since been de-snarled and all systems are now are in high gear for Puerto Penasco's only English-language radio program (106.1 FM on Saturdays from 12pm-2pm).

 

One of the points of contention was music. Without going into too much technical detail, suffice it to say that both Russ and I have been lobbying to have more control over the choice of music we play. Station management has seen the logic to letting us upload tunes that we know our audience will appreciate. Let me explain...this is exciting news for us, especially since we both have huge music libraries.

 

That was the good news, now for the bad: by tomorrow afternoon I have to have picked my favorite 10 songs for this week. Out of thousands of songs, organized by singer, genre, decade, and holiday season, I've got to pick the 10 best ones. Now, you might say, "Just pick good ones and leave the rest for future weeks", but that wouldn't do justice to the huge milestone of finally being able to bring you our best, now would it? How can we go to the mat for the right to bring you music, and then not bring our very best? This is a huge responsibility.

 

Russ and I have agreed to each bring 10 songs and go from there. I have no idea what kind of music he's bringing, and when I opened my folders, I didn't know where to begin. Of course it won't surprise you fellow baby boomers out there that I headed straight for the Sixties-era music. Sure, there are other places to start, but didn't life really begin in the Sixties? At least musically speaking.

 

Woodstock, The Doors, Joplin, so much to pick from. I start wondering if I can talk Russ out of his choices so I can pick more. Naw, that's not fair. Alright, I pick a few and move on to the Blues folder...oh goodness. BB King, Musselwhite, Koko Taylor...how do I pick only 10? The Country! Arghh...

 

By the time I got all my must-haves into a folder, I had sixty-four songs! It took most of the day, but I finally did it, there are only 10 songs in my folder for this coming Saturday. 10 songs that were lovingly hand-picked by me...just for you.
